Delight in the humor and invention of some of Mozart and Haydn's most engaging works. Enjoy Mozart reimagined as acclaimed Christopher Hogwood conducts a version for strings of Mozart's Fantasy for Mechanical Organ as well as a Flute Concerto arranged after Mozart's masterful Clarinet Concerto. Also, Haydn's ingenious Symphony No. 98 is chock full of musical humor.
Mozart/Mueller: Flute Concerto in G major (after K. 622)
Mozart: Fantasy for Mechanical Organ, K. 608 (arr. strings)
Haydn: Symphony No. 98 in B-Flat Major
Christopher Hogwood, conductor
Christopher Krueger, flute
MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Christopher Hogwood conducts Mozart's clarinet concert in a historic arrangement for flute with the orchestra's own principal flutist, Christopher Krueger. Handel and Haydn's audience gets an unusual opportunity to hear two versions of the same piece in one season: the Mozart Clarinet Concerto played by clarinet and an arrangement of the same work for flute. Also unique on this concert is an arrangement of Mozart's Organ Fantasia for strings. Don't miss the change to hear both rare offerings on one program.
Haydn also appears in a performance of the most personal of his London symphonies, Symphony No. 98. By scoring for trumpets in B-Flat for the first time in this symphony, Haydn, at sixty, created a new orchestral sonority in his music.
