The Society Ball honors legendary soprano Phyllis Curtin for her unparalleled commitment to music education. One of the premier artists of the last century, Ms. Curtin studied at Wellesley College and New England Conservatory and performed on many of the world’s great stages with the New York City Opera, Metropolitan Opera and other companies in America and Europe.
Over the course of her remarkable performing career, Ms. Curtin also developed a sincere love for teaching, which led to a second prestigious career as an educator, including positions at Boston University and Yale University, and as Artist-in-Residence at the Tanglewood Music Center, a role she continues today.
Her joy, warmth, wisdom and excitement for singing have influenced thousands of students. We are proud to honor Phyllis Curtin at the 2011 Society Ball and to thank her for the extraordinary talent and dedication she brings to furthering the love of music for so many young singers.
