“H&H has given me so much that it's hard to put into words, and I know that it has shaped me not only as a musician but as a person.”–Evangelyna Etienne

The Evangelyna Etienne Award extends a $500 award to a current or former VAP student between the ages of 16 and 24 who plans to continue vocal training at the college level.

This award is named in memory of Handel and Haydn Society VAP alumna Evangelyna Etienne who passed away in September 2011 after battling a terminal illness. She joined H&H Singers at age 10 and progressed through Youth Chorus and Young Women’s Chorus; as a High School Soloist, she studied voice with Barbara Winchester at the New England Conservatory and piano with Bert Yocom. A graduate of Saugus High School, Ms. Etienne was a Music Education major at Gordon College from 2008–2011, studying voice with Susan Brooks. She was the 2008 co-recipient of H&H's Candace MacMillen Achtmeyer Award and the 2011 recipient of the Barbara E. Maze Award for Musical Excellence. Through her commitment and passion for vocal music, Evangelyna displayed a generosity of spirit and an ability to inspire others as a music educator and performer at the highest levels of musical excellence.
