Grades 3-12
In-School Music Workshops are offered at the elementary to high school levels. This season's offering is "Voices of History," featuring music ranging from 1100 to 1994 with classical, folk and popular idioms, as well as “Voices of the Stage,” incorporating the genres of opera, oratorio and musical theatre as an introduction to music of the stage. The Handel and Haydn Vocal Quartet, with a piano accompanist, perform pieces representing historical eras, as selected by students in an engaging quiz show format. The informal classroom setting encourages students to respond directly to the music, and promotes interaction between students and musicians. Workshops also feature a question-and-answer session in which the artists speak candidly about their backgrounds, training, and professional careers. The Society offers these workshops to schools at no cost, reaching more than 10,000 students each year in Boston, Brockton, Cambridge, Lawrence, Lowell, Lynn, Medford, Quincy, and Woburn.
If your school is not in one of these communities, and you would like to book the Handel and Haydn Society Vocal Quartet for a workshop, please call or email Young Audiences of Massachusetts for a catalogue. They can be reached at (617) 577-0570, ext. 22, or at yamass@aol.com.
