CREATIVE SERVICES DESIGNER

REPORT TO: Senior Marketing Communications Manager

STATUS: Full-time

DESCRIPTION:  A member of the marketing team who reports to the Senior Marketing Communications Manager, the Creative Services Designer helps develop and executes the overall online and visual design strategy for the Society as directed by the senior management team, and manages printing, photography and videography activities. The ideal candidate is a high-energy, deadline-oriented, skilled web/graphic designer with branding know-how in producing successful customer-focused communications for patrons and prospects. This is an opportunity to join a dynamic, hard-working team with the shared goal of increasing the organization's visibility, audience development, and educational outreach. Candidates must have excellent visual design skills, be technically savvy and possess an excellent command of print and Web process, with attention to detail.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Print

  • Conceptualize, design and produce promotional materials including subscription brochures, flyers, postcards, signage, advertising and other collateral
  • Create press-ready files for both digital and offset printing
  • Execute appropriate designs based on the medium (sheet-fed press, newspaper ad, CMYK vs. spot color)
  • Liaise with printers and attend press-checks to ensure high quality
  • Work with Marketing Assistant to procure quotes and insure successful project management

Online

  • Provide new and improved design direction and concepts for the web site
  • Incorporate video, audio, and interactive elements to enhance the user experience
  • Develop ideas and improve functionality/cross-promotion to help increase ticket and online store sales
  • Implement SEO strategy and directives
  • Create HTML email templates, online ads and landing pages for a variety of campaigns
  • Work with Audience Services Manager to learn and improve Patron Edge ticket purchasing Web interface
  • Train and art direct Marketing Assistant and Web Design Intern on basic projects

Photography/Videography

  • Develop library system for viewing, naming and searching images
  • Occasionally photograph or record events
  • Help plan and direct photo and video shoots

Project Management

  • Keep team informed of project progress
  • Work with Marketing Assistant on maintaining deadlines, procuring necessary support files, and following circulation and approval process
  • Assist with concert operations
  • Maintain relationships with outside online vendors such as consultants, services (email vendors, survey vendors, WGBH, etc.)
  • Maintain archives of all print, photo and video/podcasts.

Other duties as assigned.

Candidate must possess:

  • Strong artistic ability and design expertise with elements such as color, composition, branding
  • Clean typography skills with an understanding of design hierarchy
  • Customer-focused approach to Web and print design
  • Good organizational skills in order to meet deadlines and stay within budget
  • Strong communication skills; ability to verbally and visually present ideas to internal clients
  • Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work independently
  • Interest in working on a fast-paced team

Requirements:

  • Demonstrated ability in Dreamweaver, Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, QuarkXpress, Photoshop and other related design programs
  • Experience creating and editing audio and video files for Web use
  • Expert knowledge of print and Web design/production and the commercial printing process
  • Ability to design clean, neat, consistent branded material across online and offline mediums
  • Understanding of basic code: CSS, HTML, XML; PHP, Javascript, Coldfusion a plus
  • Adept at creating email templates that render properly through various email clients
  • Problem solving experience with cross-browser and cross-platform issues (IE, Firefox, Safari, etc.)
  • Knowledge of current web design trends and techniques
  • A bachelor's degree in graphic or Web design, or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related experience
  • Positive can-do attitude
  • Interest in classical music or performing arts a plus.
