Handel and Haydn Society Historic Mozart Performances
The Handel and Haydn Society has delighted audiences
with over 140 performances of music by Mozart in its treasured
191-year history. The following are just a few of the Society’s
most memorable moments.
March 9, 1828, Boylston Hall: first Handel
and Haydn Society performances of music by Mozart. The program
includes the Sanctus and Benedictus from the Requiem, K.
626.
January 18, 1857 , Boston Music
Hall : Director Carl Zehrann
conducts the Boston premiere of the complete Requiem, K.
626.
April 14, 1915 , Symphony Hall: Mr.
Emil Mollenhauer directs soprano Anita Rio in a dazzling
rendition of ‘ Zeffiretti lusinghieri’ from
Mozart’s beloved opera Idomeneo.
January 15, 1988 , Symphony Hall: Christopher
Hogwood conducts legendary pianist Keith Jarrett in the Piano
Concerto No. 21, also known as “Elvira Madigan.”
