
Harry Christophers is known internationally as founder and conductor of the chorus The Sixteen as well as a regular guest conductor for many of the major symphony orchestras and opera companies worldwide. He has performed at some of the world's most prestigious festivals including Salzburg, Mostly Mozart in New York, the BBC Proms, the Prague Spring Festival and in Vienna 's Musikverein, Sydney Opera House and Tokyo Opera City. He has made a over 80 recordings for which he has won numerous awards including a Grand Prix du Disque for Handel's Messiah, the coveted Gramophone Award for Early Music and, most recently, the prestigious Classical Brit Award 2005. In 2004, he also started the Handel in Oxford Festival, an annual long weekend indulging in the genius of this great composer. He is a regular guest conductor with the Deutsches Kammerphilharmonie, City of London Sinfonia, Granada Symphony Orchestra and the Orquestra de la Comunidad de Madrid. He recently made his debut with the Academy of St Martin in the Fields, the Hallé, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the San Francisco Symphony. He made his debut conducting the Handel and Haydn Society in the United States leading Handel’s Messiah in December 2007.
